Javad is an independent animator, new media artist and scholar with a multidisciplinary background in engineering, animation and experimental digital media art. He is currently a PhD student at the School of Art, Design and Media, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. Taking a research approach that includes both theoretical investigation and studio-based practice, his PhD thesis theorized the temporal behaviors of Arabic character-forms in time-based media and explored the effects of such behaviors on legibility and readability of dynamic texts. Javad’s animations and artworks have been screened and exhibited internationally. He is the founder and director of Fanoos Studio, an art initiative that has been active in animation and digital media art production since 2010. He was also the co-curator of Bayu: An Exhibition of Contemporary Islamic Art, which was praised by the renowned scholar Nada Shabout.

The Conference of the Birds

A site-specific video art installation which is a calligraphic reflection on a long poem,The Conference of the Birds, by the prominent Classical Persian poet and gnostic Farid ud-Din Attar (1110-1221 CE). The poem describes the mythological journey of a group of birds who want to know the Simurgh, a mythical bird in Persian literature.

Cosmic Symphony

A short media experiment as a class assignment for the course "Visual Music and Intermedia" by Prof. Vibeke Sorensen at the School of Art, Design & Media, Nanyang Technological University. The video art is based on the data received by Radio Telescopes from outer space. The original sounds used in the piece are from the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO), that are digitally mixed and manipulated. The images are digitally-enhanced real footage captured by astronomers and amateur space photographers using different types of telescopes.

The Reflection of Loneliness was the title of an unfinished Augmented Reality installation that was based on a poem by the Iranian poet Sohrab Sepehri. Although the project has never been completed, I made some progress in experimenting with various AR platforms and developing ideas for the installation.

Symphony No.40

A visual music animation based on the first movement of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's famous Symphony no. 40 in G minor. I designed two fantasy creatures with specific characteristics and animated them based on the music. The synopsis of the film reads: "A curious creature wanders into the world of some other fantasy creatures. He finds himself in trouble as he tries to discover them."
